Below is a list of my favorite albums of all time. I recently realized that many people don’t actually listen to full albums anymore? I’m not really sure if that’s really the case or if it was just random that I was outnumbered in my opinion that I like listening to full albums.
Obviously I still listen to playlists and often shuffle artists full discography but there is something so nice to listen to a complete album, especially when it’s very well put together or made to transition well. Many of these bands/artists have multiple albums that I would consider great to listen to as a whole, but I’ve limited each artist to one. I’ve included honorable mentions for each band/artist I would include multiple on, again this is not just their best albums but my favorite to listen to as a whole.
Without any further ado, here are some of my favorite albums, in no particular order.
Dark Side of the Moon – Pink Floyd
This might be my favorite complete album to listen to. The flow between songs is fantastic, it really feels like it’s taking you on a journey. I would always turn to this album to listen to the night before a big event or test, it is soothing to me and puts me in a good state of mind.
HM for other great albums by Pink Floyd: Wish you were Here and Animals
Led Zeppelin IV
My favorite Led Zeppelin album. Great to listen to as a whole.
HM: Houses of the Holy
Jar of Flies – Alice in Chains
Peak Alice in Chains. Can really feel the emotion in this one.
HM: Unplugged and Dirt
Eat a Peach – Allman Brothers Band
By far the Allman Brothers Band’s most well rounded album. I mostly listen to their live recordings but this is a great listen.
HM: At Filmore East. It’s live recordings but great.
The Joshua Tree – U2
U2 has some huge fans but also some people who majorly despise them. Getting their album downloaded on everyone’s phones was a weird move. The Joshua Tree is a great album though.
Wede Harer Guzo – Hailu Mergia and Dahlak Band
Not sure how I stumbled upon this album. I think I heard a song used in a video or something. It’s from an Ethiopian band and was recorded in 1978. It’s from Ethiopia’s golden age of music and it rocks.
MBDTF – Kanye West
Not a big fan of Kanye anymore, but this album had a choke hold on me in high school and into college. It really takes you on a journey.
HM: Graduation
Are You Experienced – Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix. Not much else to say.
Couldn’t Stand the Weather – Stevie Ray Vaughan
Couldn’t Stand the Weather is a classic Stevie Ray Vaughan album. It’s a shame his career was cut so short, he was one of (if not the) best blues players of all time.
Moving Pictures – Rush
Rush’s best album. All pretty solid.
Dookie – Green Day
Maybe the best punk album of all time?
Purgatory – Tyler Childers
Peak Tyler Childers.
Alfredo 2 – Freddie Gibbs
Probably Freddie Gibbs’ best album. Anything that has The Alchemist on it is bound to be great.
Home – Billy Strings
No misses.
Pray for Paris – Westside Gunn
Westside Gunn and Griselda have some of the best sampling in the game. Full of heat.
Songs from a Ghost Town – Trampled by Turtles
I like most of Trampled by Turtles discography. I heard 1-2 songs from them on this album initially then listened to the full album, it’s one of my favorite bluegrass albums.
Reckless – The Steeldrivers
Steeldrivers when it was still Chris Stapleton as the lead singer.
Ghost in the Bottle – Kitchen Dwellers
Another good bluegrass album. Honestly I’m not the biggest fan of their other albums but this one is very well put together.
